MATTHEW HASTINGS

Date of Birth: October 21, 1966

The son of actor Don Hastings, Matthew Hastings was born in New York. His father, who has been playing Dr. Bob Hughes on the soap opera As The World Turns since 1960 and his mother, Nan, divorced in 1980.

In 1995 Matthew created the teen series Out of the Blue, filmed at Florida's Sea World and featuring a Latino cast. Each episode was shot twice, once in Spanish and once in English. In 1999 he got together with Michael Braverman, who'd created the TV series Life Goes On and had written for Chicago Hope, and together they created the series Higher Ground. Hastings also took on the role of executive producer and writer for the show, which was produced by Fox Family in association with Paramount Television. Filmed in Vancouver, the series starred Joe Lando as a social worker at a boarding school for at-risk teens in the mountains. When it wasn't picked up for a second season, Hastings went on to direct an episode of Just Deal and also wrote for the series Vampire High. During the seventh season of Showtime's sci-fi series The Outer Limits in 2001, Matthew joined on as writer, director and executive producer.

Hastings made his feature film-directing debut with Decoys (2004), based on a script he'd co-written. He stays in contact with his father, who played a role in Decoys as a medical examiner.
