LEELEE SOBIESKI

Date of Birth: June 10, 1983

Sobieski was born Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski in New York City. Her father, a native of France, is a painter and her mother is a writer. Both encouraged Leelee to explore the arts at a young age, by introducing her to Shakespeare in the Park at age three, toting her to art galleries every weekend, and the south of France every summer.

At age 11, Sobieski was spotted in her school cafeteria by a casting agent, who suggested she try acting. The concept had never even crossed her mind—she planned to become a writer or a painter --but soon found she had a knack for it. She found herself going up for cereal commercials and Hallmark TV movies and began appearing in television movies and guest spots on successful television shows.

Sobieski made her feature film debut in the Disney film Jungle 2 Jungle, starring Tim Allen and Martin Short. Her co-star and love interest was played by real life friend Sam Huntington. Leelee also headlined the CBS miniseries Joan of Arc as the title character, and impressed everyone with how well she handled the chore--an impressive feat for any actress, never mind one who was only 15 years old. Starring opposite Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Hershey, she earned an Emmy nomination in 1999.

In addition, Sobieski has amassed some nice credits, including Dreamwork's Deep Impact, the late Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999), The Wicker Man (2006) with Nicolas Cage and Public Enemies (2009) with Johnny Depp.

Sobieski divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. She enjoys painting, ceramics, poetry, martial arts, and horseback riding.
