KIRK JONES

Date of Birth: October 31, 1964

Known for the quirky humor found in his commercials, Kirk Jones made a name for himself in the 1990s with his award-winning Absolut Vodka TV ads. Not long after, his advertising campaign with Heinz won the 1996 Silver Lion at Cannes. Other clients included Coke, McDonalds, Mercedes, Sony Playstation and BBC TV.

Having grown up in the small town of Long Ashton, England, Jones combined memories of his grandfather with details he'?Td read in a newspaper clipping about a postmistress in a small town who'd won a lottery but had tried to keep it secret, when writing the screenplay for his first feature film, Waking Ned Devine (1998).

Though a first-time film director, Jones had little trouble finding backing, mainly because his script was so well developed. It went on to win not only critical acclaim and audience approval, but numerous prizes from film festivals around the world.

Jones returned to directing commercials before taking on his next film project, Nanny McPhee (2006), written by and starring Emma Thompson. He then went on to helm Everybody's Fine in 2009 with Drew Barrymore, Robert DeNiro and Kate Beckinsale before directing the all-star cast in his latest project, What to Expect When You're Expecting (2012).
