Kelly Rowland was born Kelendria Trene Rowland in Atlanta, Georgia to Doris Rowland-Garrison and Christopher Lovett.

She and her mother moved in with Beyoncé’s family when they left her father in the early 1990s. Kelly and Beyoncé became best friends and formed the singing group Destiny’s Child with their friends Tamar Davis, LaTavia Roberson, and later, LeToya Luckett. They rose to fame and after five studio albums and 225 concerts, Destiny's Child disbanded, and they went their separate ways.

Kelly started her solo projects right after and soon released her first solo album Simply Deep (2002). Her album was an international success, becoming a gold-seller in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

She transitioned into acting in 2002, playing a recurring role on the sitcom The Hughleys (2002). Kelly pursued her acting career with small guest roles until she had her film debut in the slasher film, Freddy vs. Jason (2003) in a supporting role. Kelly starred in her next film, The Seat Filler (2005), after rejoining Destiny’s Child to create their final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled (2004). They went on one last world tour before disbanding once again.

Kelly released her second album, Ms. Kelly (2007), and embarked on a tour to promote it. She went back to acting and has since had roles in films such as Think Like a Man (2012), Bad Hair (2020), and The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022). She also plays the starring role in the Netflix film Mea Culpa (2024).
