JANET MCTEER

Date of Birth: August 5, 1961

This Yorkshire native has become one of England's most respected stage actresses. In 1997, she won a Tony for Best Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Nora in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. She was also honored with a Drama Desk, Theatre World and an Outer Critics Circle Award for her work in the play.

Her prolific London stage credits include The Grace of Mary Traverse at the Royal Court Theatre and Uncle Vanya at the Royal National Theatre, both of which earned her Olivier Award nominations.

On television, McTeer has starred in a number of U.K. productions including Masterpiece Theatre, John Boorman's My Life, and Portrait of a Marriage, in which she played Vita Sackville-West.

McTeer worked on a number of feature films including Half Moon Street (1986), Sweet Nothing (1990), Wuthering Heights (1992) and Carrington (1995) with Emma Thompson. It wasn't until later that McTeer decided to cross the big pond and test out her acting legs with the Hollywood troops.

In 1999, she landed her first lead role in an American feature film. The movie was Tumbleweeds and McTeer play Mary Jo Walker, a mother who moves from city to city with her young daughter to escape an old life and seek a new one. No sooner had she left opening night than she was showered with praisefor her performance. Along with winning a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, McTeer was honored with a lengthy list of other awards and nominations. It wasn't until 2012 that she received her second Oscar nomination, this time for her supporting role in Albert Nobbs.

Janet can most recently be seen as Camilla Traynor in the romantic drama Me Before You (2016).
