FRANCES O'CONNOR

Date of Birth: June 10, 1967

Although Frances O'Connor was born in Oxfordshire, England, her parents, a nuclear physician and a pianist, moved the family to Australia when she was only two years old. Today O'Connor is one of Australia's most outstanding and up-and-coming actresses. She has starred in some of the best independent films in recent times.

She started her career on television before making it into films. Starting with a small role in Law of the Land as a journalist, she went on to do guest appearances on Blue Heelers, Snowy River: The McGregor Saga, Frontline and The Panel. She then appeared in the T.V. thriller movie, Halifax f.p: The Feeding, coincidentally playing a character with her name.

Her film debut came in the 1996 romantic comedy, Love and Other Catastrophes opposite fellow Aussie actress, Radha Mitchell. She was named Best Actress in 1997 at the Montreal International Film Festival for her haunting, carefree, yet vulnerable portrayal of Nikki in Bill Bennett's Kiss or Kill. O'Connor also co-starred with Oscar-nominee and fellow Aussie actress, Cate Blanchett, in Thank God He Met Lizzie, which made its stateside debut at the Seattle International Film Festival in June 1998.

Later in 1998, O'Connor starred opposite Academy Award-winning actor Geoffrey Rush in the thriller A Little Bit of Soul.

The following year, O'Connor became best known for her starring role in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park as Fanny Price. Her co-stars included Embeth Davidtz, Alessandro Nivola and Johnny Lee Miller. Next she portrayed literature's most famous adulteress in the sensuous adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. The mini-series chronicled the scandalous classic that was tried for obscenity in French court in 1857.

O'Connor can now be seen in the sci-fi series Cleverman and as Peggy Hodgson in the highly anticipated horror sequel The Conjuring 2.

O'Connor lives in Melbourne.
