ELLORY ELKAYEM

Date of Birth: 1972

This New Zealand native was fascinated with the art of film making at an early age, and while attending high school in Christchurch, he made experimental Kung Fu films. Elkayem then attended Christchurch film school to develop his craft.

By 1997 he had completed his first short film, a sci-fi film about a spider that grows to a gigantic size and terrorizes a woman in her home entitled Larger than Life. In addition to winning Best Short at the Swedish Fantastic Film Festival, Elkayem entered the film which he wrote, directed and produced at the 1998 Telluride Film Festival. There, it was viewed by executive producer Roland Emmerich, who approached the young director, and decided to team him with scribe Jesse Alexander to write and develop the script that became Eight Legged Freaks, released in the summer of 2002.

Elkayem has also worked for the small screen, directing the telefilm The Nest, which was a horror/sci-fi film that also featured deadly insects.
