DOMINIQUE SWAIN

Date of Birth: August 12, 1980

This Malibu, California native grew up with her three sisters, one of whom, Chelsea, is also an actress. Always interested in acting, performing in school plays, Swain's first professional gig was playing the stunt double for Quinn Culkin in The Good Son (1993). She then auditioned for the part of Lolita in the controversial film by the same name. Beating out 2,500 other hopefuls, Swain played the starring role about a young girl who has an affair with a much older man. She impressed critics and won the Young Artist Award for Best Performance by a Leading Young Actress. But because of the controversy the film created, American audiences were not privileged to see the film, leaving only the European countries to view the beginnings of this talented actress.

The same year Lolita was released, Swain also had a starring role in the action film Face/Off (1997) playing the daughter of John Travolta. More work followed and she starred as the lead in the coming-of-age drama called Girl (1998), which told the story of a spoiled high school student trying to make sense out of sex. Lead and starring roles continued to pour in and in the first three years of the 21st century, Swain had already built up an impressive resume with work in Happy Campers (2001), Pumpkin (2002), New Best Friend (2002) and Briar Patch (2002).

Other than film, Swain has also performed in a number of music videos and has modeled in a print ad for Ray-Bans.
