Chris Noth

CHRISTOPHER NOTH

Date of Birth: November 13, 1954

The youngest of three brothers, Noth was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His mother being a former CBS reporter, Noth traveled a lot and lived in England, Yugoslavia and Spain with his mother and admits to having been quite a handful as a child.

He studied with Sanford Meisner before attending the Yale School of Drama. He first spent two years as an undergraduate at Marlboro College in Vermont, during which time he lived in a cabin in the woods that he constructed. His first performance at the College was as an arch angel in Faustus.

First noticed in the film Off Beat playing a minor role, he went on to play a number of forgettable roles in various film and television projects over the next four years.

In 1987, Wolf Productions offered him a feature role in the TV series Law and Order playing the character of Detective Mike Logan. Playing the young cop, his character was soon hailed as the "soul" of the series. The show was a success, and Noth continued to play the role for another seven years.

When he did leave the show, Noth continued to work in television, playing a wide variety of roles. Some of his more notable credits include the television films Abducted: A Father's Love, Medusa's Child, With Harmful Intent, and Exiled, which he also co-wrote with a longtime friend. He would land another memorable role in the television series, Sex and the City, playing Mr. Big. The role won him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a series.

When not working in television or film, Noth pays the rent by appearing in commercials (MicroWarehouse, PSINet Internet service provider). His stage work includes Hamlet, Arms and The Man, The Heiress and Patronage. Noth has also done some voice work narrating audio books for Random House (The Andromeda Strain, Kiss the Girls).

Although Noth has been in a number of films throughout his career, he has had difficulty finding his audience. He has worked in a number of indie films such as Burnzy's Last Call (1995), Cold Around the Heart (1997), The Broken Giant (1998), and Getting to Know You (1999). More recently, however, he's been making the leap into larger budget films such as Cast Away (2000), The Glass House (2001), Mr. 3000 (2004), The Perfect Man (2005), Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010).

Chris, his girlfriend and their son live in New York City where he is the co-owner of a nightclub called The Cutting Room, which features live music in the FlatIron District.
