A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Cheryl Hines studied theater and television production at the West Virginia University, Florida State University and the University of Central Florida. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she joined The Groundlings Theater and learned comedy improvisation and how to write comedy sketches.

She went on to perform a successful one-woman comedy stage show, which earned rave reviews from Variety and the Los Angeles Times.

Her experience with the Groundlings was put to good use when she landed the role of Cheryl David on the HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm, much of which is improvised. For her work on the show, she received an Emmy nomination and won a Gracie Allen Award. The show, created by and co-starring Larry David, won a 2003 Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series and enjoyed a five season run.

Since the show came to an end, Hines has kept busy on the big screen, including starring opposite Michael Keaton and Lindsay Lohan in Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005) and playing Robin William's wife in R.V. (2006).

In 2006, Hines executive produced and directed an improvised comedy series titled Campus Ladies for the Oxygen Channel about two housewives in their 40s who enroll in college and live in the freshman dorms.

She has also appeared on series such as Unsolved Mysteries, Suddenly Susan, The Wayans Bros., Friends, Everyone Loves Raymond, Wanda at Large and Scrubs. Additionally she provided the voice of Kate for the animated series Father of the Pride for DreamWorks.
