CARRIE-ANNE MOSS

Date of Birth: August 21, 1967

Named after the hit Hollies song, Carrie-Anne Moss was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the youngest of two children. At the age of 11, Moss was starring in children's musical theate, and during her senior year, at the exclusive Magee Secondary, she was chosen to tour Europe with the school choir. After a taste of celebrity life, she set out on her own to become a model. Success was almost immediate and it wasn't long until she landed modeling jobs in Toronto, Japan, and then in Spain, where she launched her career, which spanned Europe and Japan. By age 20, she had appeared in countless magazines around the world.

While modeling in Spain, she landed her first acting job with the Lorimar/CBS late night series Dark Justice(1991) as Tara McDonald. When the show's production moved to L.A. after a season, Moss headed to California in search of greener acting pastures.

In L.A., Moss refined her acting skills by appearing in several films and guesting on TV shows. She landed a starring role on Aaron Spelling's primetime soap opera Models Inc (1994) as Carrie Spencer, an aging model with a lot of anxiety issues. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after less than a season. She was back on the TV screen a year later as Lucinda Scott on F/X: The Series (1996) and back in Toronto where the show was produced. During this time, she had squeezed in several films and TV appearances. One notable TV appearance, a guest spot on Due South (1996) as ill-fated Irene Zuko in the episode "e;Juliet is Bleeding", won her a Gemini Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role.

The world was finally introduced to her in 1999 when her big break came in The Matrix, playing the wildly popular cyberwarrior Trinity. After auditioning seven times, she landed the part and trained intensively for months for the action sequences demanded by the film. Since then, she has starred in 2009's Love Hurts, as well as Knife Fight in 2013 with Rob Lowe and Julie Bowen. She most recently starred in Pompeii (2014), Frankenstein (2015), Brain on Fire (2016) and The Bye Bye Man (2017).

Moss is married to fellow actor Steve Roy, and they welcomed their first child together in 2003.
