ANTHONY & JOE RUSSO

Dates of Birth: February 3, 1970 and July 8, 1971

Anthony Russo and his brother Joe Russo grew up in Cleveland. Their student film Pieces (1997) captured the attention of award-winning director Steven Soderbergh, who saw it at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. The comedy left such a strong impression on the filmmaker that he contacted the duo the week after the screening and told them he wanted to produce their next project.

He asked the brothers if they wanted to shoot their own film or adapt someone else's screenplay. The Russo replied that they preferred to do their own screenplays. For the next two years, they worked intensively on writing Welcome to Collinwood (2002), a crime comedy starring George Clooney, Sam Rockwell and William H. Macy.

Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney, who had founded their Section Eight production company, bought the rights to the film.

The Russo brothers also made the transition to the small screen, making the LAX series pilot in 2004 and directing several episodes of the popular comedy Arrested Development, before returning to the big screen with the romantic comedy You, Me and Dupree (2006) starring Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon.

From there, they enjoyed massive success with the blockbusters Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016), which respectively found moviegoers spending more than $700 million and $1.1 billion at the box office.

They then took on the project Avengers: Infinity War (2018), which brings together Marvel superheroes from a number of films.

Although neither brother is married, Joe Russo has two daughters.
