ANAND TUCKER

Date of Birth: June 24, 1963

Born in Bangkok to an Indian father and a German mother, Anand Tucker grew up in Hong Kong and moved to England at 18. After graduating from London's Harrow Film School, he won a place on the BBC's Production Trainee Program. He made his directing debut with the hit series The Late Show before leaving in 1992 to join the Oxford Films and Television Company.

His TV documentary The Vampire's Life (1993) about the life of Anne Rice won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Arts Programme. Next up was a TV documentary about an amateur London soccer team called Football Crazy (1994). His first drama was Saint-Ex (1996), based on the life of author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Tucker's next project hit the jackpot. Starring Emily Watson and Rachel Griffiths, Hilary and Jackie (1998) received numerous accolades, including a Best Director British Independent Film Award for Tucker, five BAFTA nominations and Oscar nods for both actresses.

Having attracted the attention of Hollywood, Tucker traveled to Los Angeles to helm Shopgirl (2005), written by and starring Steve Martin. Tucker was nominated for a British Independent Film Award as Best Director for his next film, And When Did You Last See Your Father?, starring Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent. His most recent film, shot in Ireland, is the romantic comedy Leap Year, starring American actress Amy Adams and British actor Matthew Goode.
