Amanda Seyfried grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania and began modeling at 11. She attended William Allen High School and while in her teenage years started acting on daytime television. The wide-eyed actress starred as Lucinda Marie in As the World Turns in 2000 and as Joni Stafford in All My Children from 2002 to 2003.

After high school graduation, Amanda was to attend Fordham University in New York; however, she put her education on hold when she landed her breakthrough role as Karen Smith, a member of the ditsy "plastics" in Mean Girls (2004). Amanda starred opposite Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan in this popular teen movie.

Following Mean Girls, the rising star had another leading role in Nine Lives (2005), a movie based on nine interwoven storylines.

After making appearances on the big screen, Amanda returned to TV, where she had recurring roles as Lilly Kane on Veronica Mars and as Sarah Henrickson on Big Love and guest appearances on House, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Returning to the movies, Amanda has been seen in supporting roles as Julie Beckley in Alpha Dog (2007) and as Zoe in Solstice (2007). Amanda starred opposite Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan in the summer musical Mamma Mia! (2008) and later reprised her role in the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

In 2009 she played Needy Lesnicky in Jennifer's Body (2009) — screenwriter Diablo Cody's follow up to Juno (2007) then played Savannah Curtis in the box office hit Dear John (2010). She starred opposite Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton in The Big Wedding (2013) and she then starred in A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014).

After playing a role in the ensemble comedy Love the Coopers (2015) with Diane Keaton and Steve Martin, she went on to star opposite Shirley MacLaine in the Sundance comedy The Last Word (2017), then in the comedy Gringo (2018). She also plays a starring role in the Netflix original film Anon (2018) opposite Clive Owen and stars with Milo Ventimiglio in The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019).

She then starred in You Should Have Left (2020) and voiced the role of Daphne in SCOOB! (2020). She also starred in David Fincher's critically acclaimed film, Mank (2020). The film earned her Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards.
