ADAM GARCIA

Date of Birth: June 1, 1973

Born in New South Wales, Australia, Garcia and his brother Tom studied at the Capital Dance Studio in Sydney. Garcia's ethnic looks come from his father, who is originally from Columbia. Garcia received a distinctive scar on his chin from falling on a wet floor in the bathroom a few too many times as a child.

During his early years of dance training Garcia was the butt of many cruel jokes. " I got a little bit of hassle. At one point I went to an all boys school and they'd say, 'You're a dancer right?' I'd be like, 'right'. They'd make these accusations of homosexuality. And I'd say, 'You're the ones getting sweaty, hugging each other playing rugby, and showering together. And I dance with a roomful of 60 girls in leotards. Let's work out the math, shall we.' "

An environmentalist, Garcia went to the University of Sydney to study Chemical Biology and become a scientist. But after a year, he decided to take up a career in dance instead and left the university to tour Australia in London's West End Company production of Hot Shoe Shuffle. He then landed roles in Grease and Birdy with the same company.

In 1997, Gracia took the summer off to backpack with his brother, then made his first film appearance in Wilde (1997), about the life of playwright Oscar Wilde. Following the filming of his minor role, Garcia returned to the London stage for a year to play the role of Tony in Saturday Night Fever.

He landed his first starring role a year later in the film Bootmen (2000), the story of two brothers who have been tap dancing since they were kids and try to make their way in the world. One brother wants to run his own business, while the other hopes to become a professional tap dancer.

This film was quickly followed up with more stage appearances (Cadillac Ranch in London) and film, including Coyote Ugly (2000), Riding in Cars With Boys (2001) and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004).
