Melody Gilbert's controversial doc WHOLE is about people who are obsessed with becoming amputees. Some have succeeded in cutting or shooting their legs off (often using unsafe home-surgery methods) and others are still "wannabees", pretending to be amputees in their day to day life. At the time of filming, this obsession was neither recognized as a psychological disorder, nor accepted as eligible for cosmetic surgery, leaving these people and their loved ones in a fractured limbo.
