The Source

In accordance with an ancestral tradition in a small mountain village, every day the women have to climb a steep and rocky path under a scorching sun to fetch water. This arduous and thankless task has caused several miscarriages. Leila, a newcomer to the Muslim community and the young wife of Sami, the local teacher, suggests to the men, who laze all day, that they should take over the task for their women. They refuse. Supported by Mother Rifle, a stubborn and courageous widow, Leila leads the women in a sex strike that will end only when the men have accepted. As days and weeks go by, the situation escalates: the Imam and the mayor intervene and Sami loses his job at the school, where girls are scarce. A reporter, who's also Leila's old flame, comes to the village and drives a wedge between the young woman and her husband.
