James Levine conducts Richard Wagner’s early masterpiece Tannhäuser in three acts, in its first return to the Met stage in more than a decade. Tenor Johan Botha plays the title role of the young knight caught between true love and passion. Eva-Maria Westbroek is Elisabeth and Peter Mattei sings Wolfram, while Michelle DeYoung is the love goddess, Venus. There are two 35 minute intermissions.

Sung in German with Met titles in English and Spanish. Encore performances in select theatres: January 9, 11, 13, 2016.
