The Auction

Gaby, a lamb breeder who lives on a farm in Saguenay, loves his two daughters, whom he almost never sees. One day, eldest daughter Mary announces she’s left her husband and she needs two hundred thousand dollars to maintain her standard of living and that of her children. Unable to get a loan from the bank, Gaby, bound by his promise to his daughter, decides to sell everything, including the ancestral home, to live in a modest apartment in the city.

His friend and accountant Louis tries to stop him, seeing this as too great a sacrifice for a man loved and respected in the region, but who has always bowed to the demands of Mary, a known opportunist. Gaby’s ex-wife agrees with Louis, as does Gaby’s younger brother Frédérique. But nothing gets through to him. Resolved, resigned, Gaby sees his actions as a kind of liberation.
