Serengeti Mara is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Tanzania and Southern Kenya which supports the largest migration of mammals on earth. This migration, along with the traditional Maasai way of life, is threatened by a plan to build a truck highway across the ecosystem, effectively destroying this spectacular annual wildebeest and zebra migration. "Serengeti Mara: A Memoir" reveals the high stakes international effort to engineer commercial passage for 800 trucks per day exporting rare earth metals from Central Africa, across the Serengeti, to China, while drawing an intimate portrait of this enchanted land in which filmmaker Shep Abbott and his then anthropology-student wife, Lisa Lindblad, spent two years camping while studying and filming both the ecology and the Maasai people. b
