Mossane

In this Sengalese melodrama, a beautiful village girl finds herself torn between tradition and modern values. Mossane is only 14 but is considered by the villagers to be an extraordinary beauty. Even her brother is sick with love for her, something her family cures by binding the two naked in a road and covered with sacrificial chicken blood. A student, forced to come home after a strike closed his university, is also in love with Mossane. She loves him too, but they never show it physically for she has been betrothed from childhood to another. Her husband to be, left the village and moved to France where he has become wealthy. Mossane dislikes him, but he sends money and gifts to the impoverished villagers and they pressure her to marry him. Things reach a critical point when her beloved student must return to school. Unable to follow her dreams and bound by tradition Mossane takes action and tragedy ensues.
