Love and Honor

Renowned director Yamada Yoji brings his acclaimed samurai trilogy to a beautiful close with Love and Honor (a.k.a. Bushi no Ichibun). A look at the relationship between a young blind samurai (Takuya Kimura) and his wife, who will make a sacrifice in order to defend her husband's honor. A love story in which a low-caste samurai struggles against circumstance to please both his heart and his conscience. This time the hero is Shinnojo, a young food taster stricken with blindness after eating bad shellfish intended for his clan lord. Faced with the loss of his annual stipend, Shinnojo contemplates suicide while his coldhearted relatives secretly push his adoring wife, Kayo, into the arms of an influential samurai on whose gratitude their survival may depend.
