Life Begins

Montreal, early 1960s. Etienne Langevin worships his father to the point where he drinks in every word he says and even mimics his movements. On the surface a model father figure, Dr. Jacques Langevin is hiding a serious drug addiction.

When Jacques is caught stealing drugs from the hospital pharmacy, the president of the hospital, who is none other than his own father, fires him. The next day, Jacques dies of an overdose. His wife Louise is forced to sell the house, move into an apartment with her three children and get a job. Louise has her hands full with Etienne, who is not taking his father's death well. She doesn't yet know that the boy has a handful of his father's morphine tablets...
