Khamosh Pani (Silent Waters)

Under the 1977-1988 regime of Pakistan's President, General Zia-ul-Haq, the country is undergoing an upswing in Islamic devotion. A middle-aged widow, Ayesha (Kirron Kher), lives in a remote village with her teenaged son, Saleem. Having survived the partition of India, when women were under threat from all sides, Ayesha now suffers from the torment of watching her son fall under the influence of Muslim fundamentalists. Against a background of increasing intolerance, a group of Sikhs arrives in the village on a pilgrimage, a development that forces unbearable secrets about Ayesha's past to surface.
