After losing almost everything and enduring an almost constant health crisis, Ronald and Jessie Cooper became artists by chance in their mid-fifties. The husband and wife team complemented each others work: Jessie creating a world of heaven and Ronald depicting hell out of his own subconscious feelings. Their work quickly rose to fame within the folk/outsider art world to an international level.The story interweaves themes of memory, loss, and death in relation to their art as revealed by Jessie's own struggle with succumbing to full-blown Alzheimer's disease and Ronald's battle to continue on after losing his soulmate.
