Galaxie (1966)

Filmmaker Gregory J. Markopoulos assembled short film portraits of numerous talented friends for Galaxie, including poets Allen Ginsberg and W.H. Auden; choreographer Erick Hawkins; composers Ben Weber and Gian-Carlo Menotti; artists Jasper Johns, Paul Thek, and Maurice Sendak; writers Parker Tyler and Susan Sontag; and filmmakers Jerome Hill, George and Mike Kuchar, Ed Emshwiller, and Shirley Clarke. Each portrait was edited in the camera, with the subjects posing alongside personal objects they themselves selected. The collisions of imagery include the Kuchar brothers with props from their films, Sontag with photos of Garbo and Dietrich, Weber with wigs and feather boas, and Clarke with a Felix the Cat doll and a skull.
