Angélique

17th century France. Angélique, the rebellious daughter of a financially ruined aristocrat is sold in marriage to Joffrey de Peyrac, a powerful count who has a limp and a scar on his face from an accident that occurred during his youth. Initially hostile to her ugly, older husband, Angelique gradually falls in love with him as she slowly discovers his patience, courage and ingenuity. Meanwhile, the growing influence of the count, and especially his enormous wealth from gold mines, fuel the jealousy of his opponents. They orchestrate a plot against King Louis XIV and throw the blame on Joffrey, who is imprisoned for treason. Convinced of her husband’s innocence, Angélique takes on the royal court.
