Director Tom McCarthy reveals that he connected with the Spotlight script immediately when it was brought to him. Without even knowing the full story, he loved the idea of an outsider coming to The Boston Globe and marshalling the investigation into the Catholic Church for the Spotlight section of the newspaper. Tom, who went to college in Boston, was raised Catholic and says he really connected with this film and felt he was meant to tell the story.
