Interview with Mission Specialist Dr. Michael J. Massimino ("Astro Mike") (Hubble 3D)

Through the power of IMAX 3D, Hubble 3D will enable moviegoers to journey through distant galaxies to explore the mysteries of our celestial surroundings, and accompany space-walking astronauts as they attempt the most difficult and important tasks in NASA's history. The film offers an inspiring and unique look into the Hubble Space Telescope's legacy and highlights its profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble 3D is produced and directed by Toni Myers.

Mike Massimino, or “Astro Mike” as he is known at NASA, is a veteran space walker and an integral part of the NASA program. Known for his patience and good sense of humor, Mike took full advantage of those qualities being onboard the Shuttle Atlantis last May. Mike not only was a key player in fixing the Hubble telescope, but he also helped make history by helping to shoot and document the dangerous mission for Hubble 3D.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer had the opportunity to chat with Mike Massamino in Washington D.C. about his challenging and very dangerous mission, what it was like for him to help document the mission for this film, and what made his kids finally think he was "cool" for being an astronaut.
