Matt Damon talks about how he wanted to work with director Zhang Yimou for years so when Zhang approached him to play the starring role in The Great Wall, he jumped at the chance. Matt goes on to describe his respect for how Zhang is able to choreograph and coordinate such large scenes with so many actors involved while still keeping in mind the CGI characters that will be added in later. He discusses the idea behind the film and reveals that the Great Wall had been built to keep out monsters that are based on real Chinese myths. Finally, Matt describes the differences between his character, William, and co-star Pedro Pascal’s character, Tovar – mainly being that William is so impressed by the civilization they encounter, while Tovar just wants what he came for.
